Frequently Asked Questions

Here you will find the answers to all things Absolute Collagen. If you can't find what you're looking for, please get in touch.

How should I take Absolute Collagen?

Simply tear or twist open the sachet & pop in your mouth, If you would prefer not to take Absolute Collagen directly from the sachet you may choose to mix it with a hot or cold liquid of your choice, add to a smoothie or mix in yogurt.

Alternatively, find your mojo:

Louise is all for the mid-afternoon “tisane” (in warm water) with a slice of fresh lemon, great for alkaline level.

Margot’s mojo is served early evening, mixed in a shot glass with warm water and fresh mint, we like to call this the “marjito”.

Tim takes his in yogurt, Lisa in her tea and as for me, I’m definitely hardcore, down in one. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.

When should I take Absolute Collagen?

Absolute Collagen has been made with our busy lives in mind, so take it when suits you. Put a few sachets in your handbag and a few in your office desk, that way you will never miss a dose. Due to the high-protein content in absolute collagen, some people can experience a “lift” and therefore prefer not to take it just before bed.

Is Absolute Collagen superior to other collagen products?

Liquid supplements have been shown to be more effective than pills or powders as a delivery mechanism. One 10ml sachet of Absolute Collagen contains the same amount of active ingredients than 10 to 15 pills in a more easily digestible format.

Because it is sourced from fish, marine collagen is protected from diseases and viruses that can affect animal products such as Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (“Mad Cow Disease”), Foot-and-Mouth disease and Bird Viruses.

There are many products and brands that claim their collagen supplement or collagen builder contains collagen or hydrolyzed collagen. Typically they do not contain any hydrolyzed collagen or collagen peptides. Instead, they are mostly made up of 3 amino acids glycine, proline & hydroxyproline which together represent about 50% total amino acid content of the collagen helix chain.

You need up to 18 different amino acids in the right quantities and ratio to create a collagen molecule. These products also lack other minor but important amino acids necessary to construct a complete collagen molecule helix chain. Which is why Absolute Collagen formula contains hydrolyzed marine collagen.

Research shows that due to its very low molecular weight, hydrolyzed collagen is absorbed at a higher level into the bloodstream and circulated throughout the body more easily than other forms of collagen such as gelatin.

When it comes to beauty and health products, the popularity of fish-derived collagen continues to grow. This is due primarily to a preference for marine ingredients over those sourced from beef, pork, or chicken. Fish collagen is also free from the risk of pathogens that cause diseases such as bovine spongiform encephalopathy.

What does Absolute Collagen taste like?

Absolute Collagen is as absolute as can be, 8000mg of marine collagen and very little else, we use a natural sweetener that gives it a slightly bitter taste. Our blender works to a percentage tolerance and given the minimum amount of ingredients in comparison to the amount of collagen in each 10ml sachet this can mean that each batch is slightly different in taste and consistency.

What is collagen?

Collagen is the main structural protein in the human body constituting 70% of our dry-mass skin content. A key component of the skin’s structure, collagen fibres provide the infrastructure for elastin, which maintains skin elasticity. In the arena of ingestible beauty products, collagen is now recognised as the star player.

Collagen is the largest and most abundant protein in our bodies, it's the ground substance, the structural material in the human body is collagen. Collagen is secreted by a variety of different cells, but primarily by connective tissue cells. While young, the body consistently produces collagen but collagen production naturally declines with age, reducing the structural integrity of the skin and leading to the formation of lines and wrinkles and sagging skin.

As the fibroblasts cells responsible for producing collagen naturally decrease due to ageing, the visible signs of ageing become more prominent. In the dermis - collagen helps form a fibrous network, upon which new cells can grow. Collagen is also required for the replacement and restoration of dead skin cells.

Collagen is most commonly found in the skin, bones and connective tissue within the body, providing structural support, strength and a degree of elasticity (in combination with elastin). In particular, collagen can be found in the extracellular matrix - an intricate network of macromolecules that determine the physical properties of body tissues.

Collagen is a very important component and the depletion of it can cause deterioration of our skin and connective tissues.

When we are young our collagen levels are at their highest. This is why our children have smooth skin and shiny hair. When collagen becomes weaker and less substantial it begins to sag often showing as crows feet or turkey neck, doctors call this Ptosis. This is due to collagen depletion. Unfortunately, research shows that collagen levels begin to deplete from the age of 25. By the time we get to 40 we will have lost around a third of our collagen, which can cause our skin to wrinkle and sag.

What is hydrolysed marine collagen?

Hydrolyzed (spelt with an "S" in the UK) collagen is a processed form of collagen that is obtained when collagen fibers are broken down into small collagen chains also known as "collagen peptides" through a process known as "Hydrolysis".

"Hydrolyzed Collagen" is more effective because it contains a complete amino acid sequence as a collagen peptide which can be absorbed and transported to the dermis of the skin.

Is hydrolyzed collagen (collagen peptide) simply a protein that will be digested?

This is a common misconception. Traditionally it was thought that all protein is broken down and digested in the same manner. However, in recent years, more and more studies have been conducted with scientific evidence showing this to be untrue. In fact, after ingestion, collagen peptides have been shown to resist peptidase digestion and are absorbed into the blood circulation system at relatively high levels.

Peptides derived from marine collagen help with the formation of collagen by stimulating fibroblast growth and encouraging the production of extracellular matrix components, meaning it stimulates your own system into creating collagen.

Numerous studies have concluded that the absorption rate of deep sea collagen by the human body is as high as 95%-98%, but will vary depending on an individual’s body condition and health. Read what Dr Stefanie Williams, medical director at European Dermatology London (eudelo.com) had to say.

Our low molecule weight (2000 Da) hydrolyzed collagen peptide powder is highly bio-available, meaning that it has an absorption rate of above 90%.
